Donald R. Young, 79, of South Colton

Young, age 79, of South Colton, NY, will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Frary Funeral Home, Ogdensburg. Mr. Young passed away on Wednesday, April 25, 2018, at Canton-Potsdam Hospital.Donald is survived by his wife, Constance F. Hatch-Young; five children, Glenda Gedbaw and her husband, Bryan, of Alexandria Bay, NY, Jeanne Pietrzak and her husband, Vincent, of Syracuse, NY, Kathleen Brown and her husband, Thomas, of Heuvelton, NY, Cheryl McDonald and her husband, Aaron, of Bozeman, Montana, Timothy Hatch of South Colton, NY and Sally Manor and her husband, Jerry, of Massena, NY; seventeen grandchildren, twenty-four great grandchildren, one niece and one nephew. He was predeceased by a grandchild, Elise Gedbaw.Donald was born on January 7, 1939, in Ogdensburg, NY, the son of Maurice and Irene Cayey Young. He graduated from Ogdensburg Free Academy. He served in the United States Army in 1957 and was honorably discharged in 1958. Donald was first married to Sandra Jackson on November 8, 1958. She predeceased him on December 11, 2011. He later remarried to Constance Ford-Hatch on August 14, 2016 at St. Patrick’s Church in Colton, NY with Father Rocker officiating. Donald was a safety officer at St. Lawrence Psychiatric Center in Ogdensburg, NY.Donald enjoyed traveling and spending his winter months in Florida. He also loved dancing and jazz music. Donald cherished his time spent with his daughters and grandchildren and in most recent years with his blended family.Donations may be made in Donald’s memory to Colton Volunteer Fire Department Inc., PO Box 304, Colton, NY 13625 and the American Heart Association, PO Box 3049, Syracuse, NY 13220-3049.Online condolences may be made at www.fraryfuneralhome.com.
